Seat cushion leather suitable for Eames Chair with felt

The seat shell of the Eames Plastic Chair is a design classic – but hard and cool. Our seat cushion turns it into a place you'll enjoy sitting: sturdy, 3.5 mm cow neck leather with distinctive natural creases, firmly padded and shaped to fit the shell. It fits the Eames Plastic Side Chair as well as the Armchair, and every cushion is one of a kind.

The leather for the Eames Chair seat cushions

We use vegetable-tanned cow neck leather from southern Germany, approx. 3.5 mm thick. It comes from the so-called belt neck – the area of the hide where the characteristic creases form. They give the leather its bold, unmistakable texture, and no two hides are alike. Milling makes the leather soft while keeping it sturdy and durable. It comes from a long-established tannery, a family business now in its fourth generation. Over time, the leather darkens and develops a beautiful patina. You can choose between brown, cognac and black.

Eames Chair seat cushion – leather on top, wool felt underneath

For the top, you choose the leather color to suit your taste. The underside is made of 3 mm wool felt from 100% virgin wool, produced in Germany and available in our full range of felt colors.

To keep the cushion from slipping on the seat shell, an anti-slip coating made of natural latex is available as an option.

To help you choose the felt color, we offer color samples for a small fee.

Firm padding for the hard seat shell

Inside is a 20 mm pad made of foam grade RG 5078. Its high density of 50 kg/m³ makes the foam very compact and resilient – it doesn't give way even after long use and keeps its shape. With a compression hardness of 7.8 kPa, it is deliberately firm: it noticeably cushions the hard plastic shell without the cushion feeling soft or spongy.

The seat cushions are made to your specifications in color and underside finish. As custom-made items, they are therefore excluded from exchange and return.
