We produce products around leather and felt in Ilsfeld.
We produce high-quality bags and accessories for daily use, handmade with care, and sell our products worldwide via our web shop. werktat stands for reduced, often minimalist design of bags and accessories made of felt and leather. We would like to inspire you with our handicraft as well as with our materials and the finished product - from the simple sleeve to the elaborate, individualized bag or case.

... due to the many unique properties and possibilities that the materials offer us. On the one hand clean edges that do not fray are created during cutting, so that you can work "open-edged", and on the other hand the stability and thickness give the products a rustic look.

We craft all our felt and leather products by hand in Germany with many design options for our customers. We want you to enjoy them for as long and as much as we do during production.
The idea
Love of craftsmanship in leather and felt
Using natural materials and experiencing materiality in our fast-moving digital world was the starting point for the idea of producing bags and accessories from leather and felt. And to manufacture the beautiful product, to hold it in our hands and to inspire our customers with it. That is why werktat stands for reduced, often minimalist design, which puts our beautiful materials felt and leather in the centre of attention. Exciting formats and well-known yet newly interpreted shapes, practically oriented, handmade, individual - unique. And always new. All products, from felt coasters to MacBook cases, are designed and manufactured by us.
Blame the felt!
Then came the bags.
A roll of felt, hand sewing thread and pricked fingers — that's how I made my first ‚werktat' in December 2012, a rug for our dining room. A few months later I got an old industrial sewing machine and got more felt — and leather, too. The versatility of the materials excited me, and after a short time I had the sewing machine under control; the many positive reactions from friends and acquaintances encouraged me to continue.
Taking Over the House!
Reinforcement in confined space:
The werktat project continues to grow, the old sewing machine is replaced by a new, more professional one and the punching machine now facilitates work in many places. Ann-Katrin joins the team with a lot of motivation and commitment. With the know-how of the master tailor and fashion designer we expand our product range. Ann-Katrin is our specialist for special solutions in the development of cuts with an eye for fine details and she loves to produce individual unique pieces and of course to wear them.
Bursting at the seams
Move into the new workshop.
Soon "werktat" occupies several rooms, the hall, the garage and at times also the courtyard in our house. After a long search for suitable rooms we find what we are looking for and the project "werktat" moves with the help of friends and family. The workshop has been at Reinhold-Würth-Straße in Ilsfeld since May 2018 — and werktat is there to touch and visit in our small showroom. Since then: business as usual, in the best sense. New models whenever an idea strikes us — and ideas strike us all the time. The workshop is running, the showroom is open, and what hasn't changed since that very first rug: felt, leather, and the joy of making.
