handgemacht in Deutschland

For us, sustainable manufacturing is not just a trendy buzzword
We make honest handicrafts with responsibility in Germany

We produce all items in our workshop in Germany because we believe in your enjoyment of handmade items. Because we want to give you as a customer many choices. Because we use natural materials. Because we don't like fast moving disposable products. Because we find short distances more ecological. And above all because we have fun doing it:

Designing
Good design is as little design as possible – for your maximum benefit.

We take changes in our constantly changing environment, process our impressions in our ideas of felt and leather and implement them. We reduce the elements to the essentials and look for minimalist solutions that surprise you and transport our enthusiasm for these materials to you.

Our requirements
The bag is a functional carrying tool, fashion accessory and personal statement. Of course, cases for the Macbook, iPad and Surface must be handy and protect the devices. And when it comes to accessories such as coasters, placemats, mousepads and seat pads, formats and sizes must be carefully checked for suitability. But the designs of our products must offer you, the customer, real added value in terms of function, aesthetics, environmental friendliness, materials and craftsmanship, and meet your personal requirements.

After brainstorming and scribbling, we look for the right material in the right thickness and start the realization with paper or cardboard. Then we create a first pattern from the material that will later be used to make the product. If this meets all our requirements, we work out the exact pattern digial. According to this file, the diemaker makes the cutting dies and then the production can begin.

Cutting

What we cannot punch must be cut by hand. This applies in particular to individual pieces, large special dimensions and felt cuts. Cutting is done on the large cutting table, where the material can be rolled out flat with extra-sharp roller cutters and with a cordless roller cutter. Manual cutting is particularly advantageous for small quantities, as we save waiting times and cutting die costs.

Punching

With our small but professional die-cutting machine from schoen + sandt we make our work easier and can offer you many products at a reasonable price. The cutting dies are laser cut from birch multiplex, then the cutting steel is inserted and the ends of the steel are soldered. This ensures precise, uniform and dimensionally accurate felt and leather die-cut parts - from covers to coasters to seat cushions. Each part is die cut with care, piece by piece, using the specific die.

Embossing

We emboss our werktat logo on many of our products or labels. To do this, the magnesium stamp is pressed into the leather under high pressure and heat in the stamping machine. We call this blind embossing because we do not use any foils or colors for the embossing and the motif - in our case the logo - is visible recessed in the leather. With some types of leather, a darkening of the embossing occurs due to the heat. Embossing is more valuable and authentic compared to laser engraving. We also use embossing for individualization.

Sewing
Our pride - the sewing machines - so that every stitch fits.

Professional equipment for good work: Our team sews the high-quality products for you on M-TYPE flatbed machines from Dürkopp Adler with triple feed, automatic sewing foot lift, thread trimmer and automatic backtacking. This ensures that every seam is exactly where it should be.

And good sewing also requires a good thread: "SABA 12" is the name of our extra-thick, high-quality sewing thread from AMANN, which scores points with you for its beautiful textile cotton look and ensures long durability thanks to its high abrasion resistance and strength. And this thread can do even more: It supports the rustic, raw look of werktat products, which are finished with a visible seam edge and comes clearly into the foreground with its thickness and powerful stitch pattern..

Thinning

Thinning is the smoothing of leather edges. We use this technique mainly for mobile phone cases made of leather to make the cases with the strong material a bit more pleasing in fit. Of course, this also applies to leather bags that are sewn on the inside so that the edges of the bag become cleaner after being turned over.

Rivet

Here we attach labels to a bag lid with one of our rivet presses. Other uses are, for example, the assembly of press fasteners and eyelets on bags and key rings.

Packing

Shipping includes printing the shipping note and, of course, loving packaging. We make sure that our packaging for cases and seat cushions is designed as ecologically as possible and use almost exclusively paper and cardboard that is easy to dispose of.
